Frequently Asked
Questions
Navigating the world of senior living can be a daunting task, often leaving you with several questions. Our team at College Walk is here to guide you through exploring your options and finding answers that will help you make an informed decision. If you still have questions, though, please reach out to a member of our team!
What levels of care do you offer?
At College Walk, you’ll find independent living and assisted living. Our independent living neighborhood offers maintenance-free apartments, cottages, or patio homes. Our assisted living apartments provide gentle support with daily tasks, so you can focus on what truly matters the most to you.
What makes your community different from others nearby?
What sets College Walk apart is our deeply rooted presence in Brevard—more than 35 years of service—plus a nature-inspired campus adjacent to the Blue Ridge Mountains, thousands of wooded acres and walking trails, raised garden beds, and a personalized approach from associates, many of whom have served here for decades.
Here, you’ll feel like you’re living in a neighborhood where neighbors become friends, and your lifestyle, passions, and preferences matter.
What types of apartments or floor plans are available?
We offer a variety of living options, including light-filled apartments, charming cottages, and patio homes (subject to availability). Each is designed for active older adults who want freedom from home maintenance, yet remain full of life and connection.
Details on square footage, pricing, and availability are available on our floor plans page or by contacting our team.
Which amenities and activities are included?
You’ll enjoy a robust activity calendar (100+ monthly events), nature walks, raised garden beds, social clubs, concerts at the nearby Brevard Music Center, and more.
Amenities include maintenance-free living, scheduled transportation, and access to our wellness and community spaces.
What is included in the monthly fee?
Monthly fees typically cover residence rent or service fee, utilities (depending on plan), common area maintenance, landscaping and lawn care, scheduled activities, and some meals (depending on contract).
Specific inclusions vary by contract; our team will walk you through exactly what is included in your situation.
Are there additional charges for care services?
Yes. If you move into assisted living or request additional support services (for example, help with bathing or medication reminders), the contract will outline them as additional services. We’ll review how your individual support plan is created and priced.
How do you determine what level of care someone needs?
We invite you to complete a free lifestyle and service consultation. Our licensed associate will assess your functional needs, preferences, habits, and health profile to help match you with the appropriate neighborhood and support. This ensures you begin in the right place now and have a clear path if needs change.
Is care personalized for each older adult?
Yes, we create an individualized service plan based on your abilities, habits, and preferences. Our goal is to help you maintain your independence and connect you with the support you choose.
What happens if care needs increase over time?
We believe in future-ready living. At College Walk, if your care or support needs change, we’ll work together to adjust your plan and accommodate you into the level of support you need, often within the same community, so you remain familiar with the neighborhood, friends, and associates.
What’s the dining program like?
Our dining venues combine variety, taste, and flexibility. Whether you join friends at the main dining room or attend a café-style outing, you’ll find balanced meals prepared fresh. Special diets are accommodated (see next question).
Are special diets accommodated?
Absolutely. Whether you need gluten-free, low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, or vegetarian options, we work with you and our dining team to create menus that honor your preferences and dietary guidance.
What social activities and outings are offered?
Can residents have pets?
Yes, at College Walk, we know that a pet can be a beloved companion, and we welcome responsibly managed pets in many of our residences. Specific pet policies (size, breed, number) will be reviewed with you. The team will review the pet policies and fees while on your tour.
Where is the community located?
What’s nearby (shopping, hospitals, parks)?
How do I schedule a tour?
Simply contact our team online to arrange a personalized tour at your convenience. We’ll walk you through the neighborhood, show you available residences, and answer your questions.
How can families stay involved in care decisions?
We believe in partnering with families. We’ll invite you (and your family, if you choose) to the initial consultation, share your service plan, schedule updates, and maintain open communication so that everyone who matters to you feels informed and involved.
What communication tools do you use with families?
Our associates use regular check-ins, family meetings, secure portals (where available), and updates after significant changes or events. Our staff are reachable via phone or email for questions.
